Melvin Spatt Obituary

Melvin Spatt, of North Wales and formerly of Scranton, died Thursday at Sunrise of Dresher.  He is survived by his wife, the former, Faye Cohen.  The couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on August 14.

Born in Scranton, son of the late David and Jeannette Hanig Spatt, he graduated from Scranton Central High School and the University of Scranton.  He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and when he returned home continued his service by joining the National Guard.  Prior to retirement, Mel was a Department Manager at Sears in the Viewmont Mall. He later became President of the Sears Retiree Club, a position he took much pride in.  Mel also worked for Wegmans in their bakery department and loved handing out samples and treats to the children that would stop by the bakery.  In 2020, Mel and Faye relocated to North Wales to be closer to family.

He is survived by his son, David Spatt and wife, Maeve of Ambler, PA and their children Fiona, Nora and Timothy; a daughter, Rachel Spatt Bornstein, and husband, Adam of Denver, CO and their children Bode and Asher; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Pollock and husband, Robert of San Antonio, TX; nieces, Rabbi Adrienne Scott and husband, David of Houston, TX and their children, Beryt and Ezra;  and Elyssa Kane and husband, Jason of San Antonio, TX and their children, Gavin and Parker; as well as several cousins.

Mel, Dad, Pa, you will be missed.

The funeral will be Sunday at 12 p.m. officiated by his niece, Rabbi Adrienne Scott, in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. Interment will take place in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery.  There will be no local Shiva.
