Jeanne Marie Murphy Obituary

Beloved Jeanne Marie (Conway) Murphy, 86, of Dunmore, died peacefully surrounded by family on June 7th in the home where she grew up and raised her children. Jeanne was born on October 5, 1936 in Dunmore, PA to her parents, Leo P. and Marie Loftus Conway. Jeanne passed away just days shy of the anniversary of her loving husband, John F. Murphy, who died June 10, 2022. She is also preceded in death by her son, John F. Murphy, Jr., who she has joyfully reunited with after 35 years; her brother and friend, Leo P. Conway, and his wife, Jane Conway.

She is survived by daughters Jeanne Rolen (husband Andrew), Glenmoore, PA, and Maureen Murphy King, Dunmore. She leaves behind seven doting grandchildren: Emily Rolen (husband Peter Moyer), Austin, TX, and Tucker Rolen, Philadelphia, PA; Molly King, her loving caregiver; Maeve King, Washington, D.C.; Colin, Brigid, and Quinn King, Dunmore. She is also survived by her best friend and cousin, Joanie Steidle, son-in-law Chris King, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

To her grandchildren, and anyone who was lucky enough to know her, Jeanne was lovingly known as “Doodie.” She was generous with her love, kindness, compassion, and empathy. Jeanne was known for her award-winning soda bread, her contagious laugh, her sound advice (Doodie-isms), and her home and company as a comfort to all. She was, in the purest sense, a fierce matriarch that guided her family through decades of joy, hardship, celebration, tragedy, and love.

Jeanne and Jack married in 1958 and celebrated 63 years together. They were a beautiful representation of marriage, devotion, and love. Jeanne graduated from Dunmore High School and worked at Prudential Insurance, Rea & Derick Drugstore, and the Dunmore YMCA. Her most beloved job was “Everyone’s Doodie” at the Crossmolina School of Irish Dance, where she greeted families, managed the books, and kept a watchful eye over all. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore and TOPS. When she was not cheering on her grandchildren at graduations, sporting events, and dance recitals, she could be found playing dominoes or crocheting.

We miss you already, Doodie. Say hello to Poppy and Johnny for us.
