Anthony "Tony" Leonard Julian

Anthony Leonard Julian, 100, passed away Sunday, at his home in Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife, whom he dearly missed, the former Gloria M. Cacciamani, in 1992.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Samuel and Katherine Visosky Julian, he was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, and went on to serve proudly and honorably as a Navy Corpsman with the 4th Marine Division, earning the bronze star and Purple Heart during 4 first wave invasions in the Pacific Theatre of WW2. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Capital Records and as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.

Anthony was a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees and the SWB Red Barons, He had been the Treasurer of the 20th Ward Social Club in South Scranton, enjoyed bowling, and walking around Lake Scranton with his buddies. He was a regular patron of the Scranton Farmers market as well as being a skilled vegetable gardener who happily shared his produce with family and those closest to him. In the summer, he could be spotted around South Side handing out some of his prized tomatoes to friends and family.

Anthony was the true rock of the family—the glue that held everything together. His love for his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was immeasurable and he would go to the ends of the earth for them to make sure that they were taken care of. He believed that God kept him alive during the war for a reason and his family was it.  To say that family was his life would be an understatement. He never failed to be a proud spectator at his grandchildren’s sporting events, was their reliable transport to a variety of extracurricular activities, provided nutritious home cooked meals for them into his late 90’s and was closely involved in their individual education and career achievements. He was a loved parental figure to Laurie, Christian, Larry, and Gabrielle. Lunch and dinner at Pops, with the kids and his favorite ex son-in-law, will be cherished forever.  He will be deeply missed.

Surviving is a daughter, Kathryn Cacciamani and her former husband Lawrence Nicolais Sr., grandchildren Laurie Sargenti and fiancé Andrew Waddell, Christian & wife Katerina Nicolais, Lawrence Jr. & wife Caitlin Nicolais, and Gabrielle Nicolais; great-grandchildren Gabrielle Sargenti, Patrick, Anastasia, Claire, and Joseph Nicolais; his brothers Donald Julian and wife Joan, and Sam Julian; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Francis Julian, great-grandson, Michael Sargenti, Jr.; and grandson-in-law Michael Sargenti Sr.

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore.

Entombment with military honors to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the office of Dr. Phillip Boccagno as well as his long-time caretaker Phyllis Wilding, neighbor Ruth Ann Hartman, and all his aides over the past 2 years.
